A Kiln and Us

Psalms 12:6 (NIV)

And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times.

Say you were the world's best potter and you took a lump of clay and made the most magnificent pot that has ever been made but you didn't have a kiln; how useful would that pot be? It wouldn't be useful at all. You can't use a pot made from clay that hasn't been fired. Just like that, how good are God's words if we don't share them with the world? So often we find ourselves wishing that we could be smarter, or stronger, or richer, or faster but God doesn't ask us to be someone we're not. He asks us to be who he made us to be and to share His words with others. When you see a ceramic pot you don't think of the kiln that fired it, but without the kiln you wouldn't have that pot. So, like the kiln we need to produce great ceramic vessels by sharing God's word with people who won't know anything about it unless we speak up. Like the kiln, we may never be recognized as the one who saved that person but without us that person would not be saved.
