When we were in the Amazon jungle, we visited a Butterfly farm run by an Austrian lady named Gudrun. When she moved to Peru, her intention was just to run a butterfly farm. But, as she got to know the world in which she lived, she saw how some of the animals were being treated and she wanted to do something to help. She turned her butterfly farm into a rescue center for captured or abused animals. She had found that people go hunting for these animals, kill the parents, and then sell them in the markets as pets. Even the Peruvian government is now involved in her mission - they send her animals that they have confiscated for one reason or another. It was fascinating to listen to her talk about each animal - why they were there and what their history was. Yesterday, as I was thinking about that experience, I was struck by a thought; isn't that what God does for us? We were all captured and abused by the devil and his ways, lost without hopes of help, but God came along. He took us out of that environment and made us a sanctuary where we could live and grow safely.
In short, I saw the nature of God in Gudrun that day.
The baby ocelot.
A cute little monkey. Most of the monkeys were not caged but this one had turned into quite a capable pickpocket and would sometimes get vicious towards the visitors so Gudrun had to put in in an enclosure.
Jaguar!
Butterfly. That's Gudrun in the back. Interestingly enough the butterflies where the least exciting part of the Butterfly farm.
It's unedited, but it's such an adorable picture that I just had to put it in here.
