Not Just Your Average Weekend

"We could swim in it"
"We could get a canoe"
"Yep, they're stuck"
"The drains aren't keeping up"
"What's going on?... Well, looks like we'll have to find another road"

We were on our way from Helderberg College to find Grandma at her hair appointment. It should have taken us just a few minutes. Grandpa left Grandma at the hair place and drove to Helderberg to get me and then we headed back to the Hair place. We got back to the hair lady two hours after Grandpa left. Through an uncharacteristic torrential downpour, the streets of Somerset West were turned into interesting water features. Water streamed down the hilly roads and puddled in ditches and low areas. At one point we had to turn back and find another route because the water was too deep for our car. At several points, cars were left in lakes, which had formerly been roads, where they had stalled out. The chaos on the roads turned an average, boring Friday into something exciting indeed. We finally made it back to Gordon's bay, leaving the chaos of Somerset West behind, where we watched waves crashing over the harbor wall from the warmth and safety of the house.

After that exciting adventure, the rest of the weekend seemed rather uneventful. On Sabbath I took Xavier to Sabbath School where he, very characteristically, wanted to play with do everything except for the activity of the present moment. Fortunately, nap time came shortly after Sabbath School and Sabbath afternoon stretched on uneventfully. Sunday found us visiting the twin cousins Tristan and Charlie, and much exciting play time - including running through the rain.

Once again, I find myself sitting in my office wishing for the activity and excitment of the Behavioral Sciences Department at Andrews. Oh don't get me wrong, I do like it here there's just not as much activity going past my desk. I do have a very large office all to myself though... don't know if that's a good thing yet. We'll see as time goes past!
